How to audit the links in your YouTube descriptions
A practical workflow for finding broken links, reviewing affiliate destinations, and keeping older YouTube descriptions useful.
An older video can still help viewers long after it was published. Its description deserves the same care: sponsor pages move, products disappear, and resource links change.
Start with a video or channel
Paste a public YouTube video URL, channel URL, or handle into CreatorLinks. A video scan checks that video's description. A channel scan starts with its latest uploads, and you can load more videos as you review the results.
CreatorLinks extracts web links from the full descriptions. Repeated URLs share a check within the current audit, so you can spot where the same destination appears across videos.
Understand the results
| Result | What to do |
|---|---|
| Active | The destination responded successfully at the time of the check. |
| Broken | Open the destination and replace or remove links to missing pages. |
| Needs review | Check manually; restrictions, timeouts, or unclear responses can prevent verification. |
A successful HTTP response cannot prove that a page still contains the resource you intended. Review important sponsor and download links in your browser too.
Give Amazon links a closer look
Amazon product links receive extra checks for availability signals and affiliate tracking parameters. Storefronts and lists use different validation because they do not represent a single product's stock status.
An affiliate tag's presence does not confirm account ownership or guarantee commission. Product availability can also vary by location. Read our affiliate link review checklist for a repeatable process.
Fix the description, then check again
- Open Edit in Studio for the relevant video.
- Replace dead destinations with the correct current page.
- Review link labels so viewers know what they are opening.
- Save your description and run another audit after the update is public.
Export a CSV when you need a record of the audit. Prioritize videos that still receive views, then work through older uploads in manageable batches.
